For almost 100 years now, the Sandyford House has remained in the same family with the ownership being passed from generation to generation. Bought in 1909 by Danny P Flavin and his wife Josephine, the house was both a licenced premise and a family grocers. When Danny passed away in 1937, Josephine took complete control and became on of the heroines of Dublin publore. The premises became known as the ?Widow Flavins? with the widow being remembered as a wily, witty and charismatic who had regular skirmishes with the Gardai over her interpretation of the ?Bona Fide? Law. In 1949, the premises were taken over by Micheal Walsh who married the widows daughter, Joan, and set about modernising the historic inn. He was the first Dublin publican to introduce cinematograph equipment to show films on Sunday afternoons. In 1951 he became the first publican to have a television installed on the premises while in 1968, he scored another ?first? with the first public demonstration of colour television in the Dublin Area.
