Located on party-central Mitchell Street, this beer garden-style bar catches passers-by, quenching their thirst with icy cold tap beers and cocktails served in quirky fish bowls.
Since opening its door in July 2006, The Tap has proven that it's positioned exactly where it should be. This is definitely a Darwin-style venue, through and through. Don't expect any inside seating. Who wants to be indoors anyway? All the tables and chairs are set outside, allowing guests to make the most of warm Top-End weather. Grab a spot under the big sail-shaded area or find a table with an umbrella. Then grab your beers and kick back. Set beneath a huge melaleuca tree, the tastefully landscaped alfresco beer garden is ideal for lazy drinks with friends.
The Tap is open for both lunch and dinner and it also offers a light menu for 'in-between time' munchies. Its kitchen serves up the usual pub fare; think fish and chips, calamari, steaks and tasty Thai green curry.
The bar is bright and inviting and the staff are friendly. Wine by the glass is reasonably priced and there is also often specials on bottles of sparkling wine (priced between $12 and $15).
As the venue name suggests, there are plenty of tap beers available. Options include include Tooheys, Cascade, Carlton and VB. However if you've got a hankering for a cocktail instead, then try the sweet-but-strong Illusion mix (Midori, Cointreau, vodka, lime and pineapple juice) served up in a fish bowl.
