MUSIC

  WEDNESDAY NIGHTS FROM 8:30

STEVE AND THE TEES
Steve and the Tees are a classic example of the spirit of small group jazz finding its way into the corner of a bar, drawing in some eager musicians to play it and making a home for itself. Welcomed with open arms by the friendly and music-conscious staff of the Glass Bar, Steve and the Tees have made this cosy little corner their musical home every Wednesday night for the past year.

Playing a mix of jazz standards, loose bar funk and freely improvised, groove-based material, the group's sound is most often characterised by the absence of a chordal instrument. The group is led by Steve Powell at the drums, an ever-growing force of musical nature who lays it down like no other and drives the groove with the utmost of taste from the drum chair. Regular players with the Tees include Darcy McNulty (saxophones, of Kafka fame), Greg Gottlieb (Double Bass) and an assortment of musically talented friends of the band.

Named for a long-running joke about the bandleader's supposedly appalling fashion sense, the Tees are all about having a good time while making music from the moment. Head into the Glass Bar on a Wednesday night and you're guaranteed to hear the spirit of jazz created in bars oozing out through the playing and camaraderie of Steve and the Tees.

ROTATING THURSDAY'S FROM 8:30

PETE / STU / JACK
Play an improvised music that finds its roots in jazz, reggae, funk, latin and hip hop. These elements are fused by an expanding and contracting group to create music with deep groove and joyous melodies.

PSUEDO PLAY-DOH
Being described as a Raw Improvisational Sonic Groove Ensemble, Psuedo Play-Doh fuses the depth of electronic sound with the bitterness of organic/Industrial percussion to establish itself as one of the most unique groups to arise from Brisbane.

With inspiration being drawn from traditional jazz, Soul and World music, all the way to Improvisational Groove, Junk Folk and Sound scape influences, Psuedo Play-Doh is reshaping classic homogenous Funk with a collage of exciting paralleled musical Timbres.

THE BEANS
Come get your greens!

Born in the Leprechaun Colonel's veggie patch (circa 1978-79), were the individuals we've come to love as The Long Green Beans.

This Brisbane based musical juggernaught lays down slabs of funk, folk, blues, rock, reggae, jazz, latin, gypsy, hip-hop, even bluegrass!
Since their genesis in 2003, the group have acted independently, recording four homegrown E.P's, whilst gigging extensively throughout South East Queensland and beyond.

The past year has seen founding members Burl and Nash explore different musical ideas, collaborating with new musicians around the traps. Now settled back in the Brissy surrounds, the guys have re-assembled for an exciting new show in a more rollicking, big-band format, complete with auxillary instrumentation and funky soundscapes.

2008 sees the release of The Long Green Beans debut album Beanstalkin; a grand collection of vibrant, soul infused songwriting, perfect for any lively gathering. The Beans will back the album by embarking on their first Australian tour with a focus on rural area and the festivals circuit. From the ground up, The Beans deliver music in an in an earthy, raw, wholesome fashion. To this collective of musicians, life's epiphanies are just another gig away.

KERBSIDE COLLECTION
Combining jazz sophistication and funk accessibility, Kerbside Collection brings together a group of musicians who understand the importance of complexity verses simplicity in improvised music.

The group achieves its lush sound through the unusual combination of smooth jazz-guitar
melodies played against rich keyboards. An electric bass player and funk drummer ensure the groove takes first priority.

SATURDAY FROM 8:30

HUTCH - SEE THRU SOUL
Andrew HUTCHings began his dj career in 1998 after winning a 90 min set on TRIPLE J's MIX UP program as part of the LOUD FESTIVAL (now
NOISE) mixing cinema dialougues and moody, psychadelic tunes with trip hop and funky beats. After a few years playing in Brisbane as the
crunchy half of THE PEANUT BUTTER BROTHERS (a cabaret dj duo who dressed up, made up their own dance routines, and played bucketloads
of funk, rare groove and beats) and as the dj/beatman member of OSCILLATOR (a soundsystem band that blended live playing with sampling and turntablism that also wrote music for CHANNEL 9's DOWNLOAD children's gameshow, several foxtel pilot programs and many shortfilms) HUTCH moved to Melbourne in 2001.

He moved his focus from djing to writing his own music and completed a two year Diploma of Music Industry (Sound Production) at VUT Tafe in late 2003. By this time his love of djing had returned with great gusto, playing guest spots at friends' nights at REVOLVER and BIG MOUTH as well as running his own radio show THE BREAKS OF DAWN on STREET FM (2003/04).

After some traveling HUTCH returned to Brisvegas in 2004 and had kicked started his dj career by December. He has played over 300 gigs since his return, mixing funk, soul, rare groove, jazzy beats, hip hop, dubby trip hop, funky breaks, house, broken beats, afro groove, latin, d'n'b giving his sets an eclectic world funk flavour. He currently holds residencies at GLASS BAR, JUDITH WRIGHT CENTRE FOR PERFROMING ARTS (for almost 3 years), RICS, PRESS CLUB and THE FOX and frequently plays in Melbourne at BAMBU, VELUDO'S and ST JEROMES. He has supported the CAT EMPIRE (2005), and played at BIG DAY OUT (Gold Coast 2006) and ROCK THE VOTE (2006). HUTCH has also organised over 24 BOXYLUCHA nights, is a booking agent for GLASS BAR and for PRESS CLUB SUNDAYS. He and continues to write his own music and perform his live sampling computer based HUTCHATRONIC mash up shows.

The phuture sees HutcH developing his interest in audio visual art instalations, film making, beat making and writing.
